I cannot remember a time when I did not have a dog around. My family always had dogs and they were considered family members. I was the little girl who brought home stray animals, cleaned them up and found them homes. In my spare time and after school, I would spend time at the farm in town helping feed and care for their animals. I took my love for animals and began working at a veterinary hospital while I was in college. I started off working as a receptionist, however wanted to work hands on with the animals. So I was trained & then worked as a veterinarian technician/assistant. I attended Kean University and graduated with a BA in Education, taught kindergarten and preschool for children with disabilities. The years of teaching showed me the similarities between young children and dogs, plus the patience needed working with both. Since retiring from teaching I knew I wanted to work with animals again, especially dogs. I began working at Hair of the Dog as a bather in October 2012. After a year of learning and working with Sabrina as a bather and prepping dogs, I was sure grooming and styling would be just as rewarding. In May of 2015, I received my certification in Dog Grooming & Styling at the New Jersey Dog Grooming Academy, which is approved by the NJ Department of Education.
Throughout my life I have fostered dogs for several rescue organizations, volunteered at animal shelters and had certified therapy pets involved with both the Delta Society Pet Partners and Therapy Dogs International. I believe in using positive reinforcement and calm energy when working with dogs. I believe energy is sensed by animals and they reflect the energy we produce. I treat all the dogs I work with as I would treat my own. I am also interested in natural and homeopathic living for myself and my own pet(s). I currently have Echo, my mixed breed puppy, who joins me here at the salon.
